It’s not a common occurrence to be walking into a spa and be able to meet the founder of a sprawling wellness business. Last week, we visited the Bangkok location of endota Spa, centrally located in President Tower within the complex of The Intercontinental Hotel, to meet with Melanie Gleeson, the founder, and CEO of endota.

Melanie founded endota in 2000, launching the business on a $5,000 credit card. It’s evolved and grown into an empire with 100+ locations across Australia and New Zealand, with the recently launched Bangkok location as the wellness brand’s first global expansion.

“We first launched a spa in Australia,” says Melanie. “It started with one location in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, and then we expanded into skincare and wellness products, and now we have Wellness Colleges which offers training programs to excel in the field.”

Endota now has an ecosystem of its own.

“When I started, there wasn’t a wellbeing movement like today,” says Melanie. “We started the business to make people feel better. When people left our spa, there were both physical and emotional changes.”

In today’s rapidly moving world, spending on self-care and looking after your holistic well-being becomes almost crucial to continue thriving.

“After the pandemic, the business went to a whole new level,” she says. “People are more concerned with prevention. Treatments become less of a luxury and more of a necessity to take care of themselves.”

To this day, endota remains a privately held company.In choosing the right business partners and expansion targets, Melanie chooses to work only with partners who share her values and vision for the business. This is how she and Endota’s official Thailand partners Pat & Nichakarn Benjasiri, and Jack Hung came to launch the company’s first location beyond Australia and New Zealand.

“Our business is guided to where our relationships are strong,” says Melanie. “We have worked with our Thai partners for over four years. I have learned that business won’t thrive if the relationship is not strong. I’ve got no doubt that the business will continue to grow.”
